Exercising And Mountain Lions
Managed to get some exercise in yesterday.

Not a big fan of running / jogging but took off yesterday just wanting to breathe some fresh air and have some alone time ...... thinking time.

There is a road that runs adjacent to our property.  Pavements ends about 3/4 mile down and it turns into a dirt mountain road.  I grabbed up Petey at about 11:00 and took off walking and stretching across our property to the road.  Petey was excited to be going for a walk.  YAY!

Upon hitting the asphalt my walking pace picked up first slowly then quicker.  Eventually I broke into a jog and started looking ahead and picking out goals ..... just make it to there.  The road is at a very slight uphill incline and I could feel it in my chins as I reached my first goal point.  I stopped the jog and dropped to a run / walk ..... incorporating an exaggerated arm swing to help keep up the quickened heart rate.  Every now and then I would site a new goal, break into a jog and then back to my quick walk / run pace.

Reaching the end of the pavement and heading on up the dirt road into the woods the quiet beauty of it all was sinking in.  Petey running along beside me, pulling off every now and then to smell something that would catch his attention, then catching back up and keeping pace.  Then I remembered the mountain lion sighting from last week in the subdivision just down the main highway from us.  And my imagination started to work me over.  As much as I wanted to keep going I ended up turning around and coming back.

Probably jogged more than 1/2 way back .... is was now at a slight downhill and much easier on the legs / chins.  Made it home hot sweaty worked over and ready for a shower.

Today I want to head out again ..... and I keep asking myself ..... do you just keep going further and deeper down the road into the woods ..... knowing this bugger is out there somewhere ..... possibly close?  Seeing as he was spotted in a subdivision ..... does it really make a difference if I run in a populated area or in a remote area?  He is where he is, right?

When we are on the claim the mountain lion is always in the back of my head, but I don't really dwell on it or think about it much ..... I'm able to push the fear aside and just continue on with my daily routine.  Is it just that it is so close to home that it bothers me more?

***sigh***

As I write Petey is out cold.  It was quite the run for him yesterday and he is still recovering I believe.  He is so damn sweet when he is asleep.  Smiley

Grapefruit for breakfast and off I go ..... it is supposed to WARM up seriously here today ..... so thinking they could be right it would be best to get this little journey out of the way early.

Its Thursday ..... one day closer to Friday and the weekend ..... off to Medford tomorrow, flower planting on Saturday & Sunday ..... its so nice to be able to be outside in the nice warm sunshine .....

Smiley

Peace.  J.
