Dave was up and off early this morning to the mill site for more wood milling. After he left I turned on the computer ..... did a quick Mindsay check ..... and crawled back into bed ..... trying to decide if I should just get up or go back to sleep. Another shitty night of sleeping.
Then I heard something ..... a loud screech ..... living on a highway that really isn't anything new ..... but this was different ..... then a huge KABOOM! Loud ..... followed by more screeching and a BANG!
My heart started racing as the dogs across the highway started barking. Jumping out of bed ..... grabbing my bathrobe and slippers, car keys, cell phone and sunglasses I ran out the door to our car. Racing down our long driveway I could see a large dust cloud on the main highway. Upon reaching the highway I didn't see anything but lots of dust at first ..... then the little white car off in the ditch ..... SHIT!
Pedal to the metal across the highway and down to where I could get turned around the right direction .... a jogger running towards me ..... "do you have a phone?" Yes, I replied ..... and dialed 911 as he continued down the road to the little car in the ditch. Pieces of car everywhere ..... then I noticed mail .... a lot of it ..... they had hit the mailboxes ...... taking them out ..... then somehow flipped back across the highway landing upright in the ditch ..... holy cow!
The jogger and another vehicle with a nurse ..... yes, how lucky was that ..... now stopped with the woman in the car. After getting off the phone with 911 I got turned around and parked with the others waiting for help to come.
The woman .... a widowed lady who I know from my waiting table days had fallen asleep at the wheel coming home from her night job at the retirement home in Yreka. She was in shock .... but no blood anywhere .... conscious and alert with some head and neck pain. After about15 minutes .... gotta love rural areas .... help arrives in force ..... three fire rescue units, CHP and an ambulance.
Still in my bathroom and pretty much naked underneath .... it was time for me to come home .... and recount this in here so I can shake it off.
Coffee ..... I need coffee ...... the ambulance just left ..... sirens heading down road.
Whew .....
Now then, where was I ? Hell, think I'll just get up.
Peace. J.
