Just a couple things I heard the other day that I thought were kind of interesting and morbidly funny...
"Saved by the bell".....this phrase came about when back in a much earlier time beer steins were made from pewter. Apparently for some folks this was not good. Poisoning would occur and most times death. But on a few occasions the people were not dead and were buried alive. They figured this out when someone in a cemetary heard voices from the grave and when they dug up the coffin they found the person dead but there were scratches inside the box ... evidence that they had been alive. Soon if a person was suspect to have passed from this poisoning a string through a hole in the coffin was attached to a bell above the grave and if the person woke up alive and buried he/she would pull the string thus ringing the bell. They were "saved by the bell".
Now for the morbidly funny part....the phrase "dead ringer"......the person rung the bell but no one was able to get them out in time.......they became "dead ringers"....and for some reason I have laughed over this particular part now for days.....I know...something seriously wrong with me.....
